"Holy Eucharist"

Symbols are the chalice, the host, grapes and grape leaves.

The chalice was an early priest-king symbol of Melchisedek. It is the cup of salvation, the source of never-ending sustenance.

The host is a flat, round piece of unleavened bread (symbolic of manna in the desert) that the celebrant, a priest like Melchisedek, consecrates at the Eucharist. Its name comes from the Latin word "hostia" meaning victim. When shown with the chalice it symbolizes the sacrifice of Christ upon the cross.

Green leaves represent revival and renewal and are emblematic of the Savior.

Bunches of grapes are used to make the Eucharist wine and are symbols for the blood of Christ. Because of their connection with the Eucharistic wine, they symbolize the sacrifice of Christ's blood, while the host represents Christ as sacrificial victim in the Holy Eucharist.

Parish Life - Christ Renews His Parish: Letter to Past Participants

February 7, 2005

Dear CRHP Past Participants:

This letter is an update on two important issues: communications and weekend schedule changes. First of all, we wish to thank Laurie Flanigan and Gerry Paff for relaying information from the Parish Office by emails in the past. Secondly, we now have a new system in place, which will be maintained by the Parish Office, for communicating information as it relates to Christ Renews His Parish. While we have made efforts to accomplish this previously, we believe we have finally selected and tested the best software for this function. With this database, when sending emails, you will no longer be able to see the list of others receiving the message. It will be very secure.

There are several uses we envision for this system, such as sharing information about upcoming weekends, prayer chain requests and spreading the Good News! Here’s how to get started: go to www.olvisitation.com/crhp-communication.html and complete the online form to submit your information for our database. If you do not have email or wish to contact us in writing, please use the attached form and return it to the parish office.

Our next two weekends are March 5th/6th for the men and March 12th/13th for the women. While the opening Masses will remain at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, we are making an important change to the closing. Participants will now attend the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass with the parish community. We believe this change will allow participants to feel the support of the parish community and allow them to witness the visible renewal of the Lord in their lives. The weekend will then have a closing prayer service, to be held later in church. All families – past and present - are welcome and encouraged to attend “The Closing.” Additional details will be sent out via our new system discussed above.

We need a response from everyone so check the box even if you do not want to receive updates on events with the weekends.

We are excited about these new developments and wish to thank you for your continued support. May you and your family have a blessed New Year!

Yours in Christ,
The Christ Renews His Parish Continuation Committee
